The Singularity?

Link: Rough Type: Nicholas Carr's Blog: What we talk about when we talk about singularity. Indeed the singularity may never in fact arise but the movement toward it is what I find of interest. Not only is this idea "conceivable" but as we move toward it what groups or individuals will be best positioned to leverage it?

Surely we have already seen organizations rise to prominence as a result of leveraging the machine. More are sure to follow as our "networked intelligence" increases. Remember that It is Still Early in Web Years.

Amazon & Goolge: Scale is Mission Critical

Scale is mission critical for Amazon & Google and therefore they have to get it right in order for their core business to survive. IBM, Sun, MS et. al simply want to build a software business around scale. There is a huge difference. Amazon & Google have both experienced the pain of scalability and have already factored this into their respective solutions. Everyone else will need to learn from their customers' pain. Frankly as a consumer, I obviously prefer the former.
