Pew Survey Confirms What We All Know: Net Beats Newspapers As A Source For News. Definitely this is not news for most of us because we have been getting our news online for many years now. Still, to have the numbers confirm what we all know just adds more fuel to the fire consuming most (if not nearly all) of print media.
However, question remains, especially given the innovators dilemma, what if anything print media could have done to save itself? There is no precedence of an industry completely cannibalizing its own revenue stream in order to save itself. It is simply not in our collective nature to easily let go of our world view even when there is stark evidence that we should do so. How more difficult is it when our world view also completely encompasses our livelihoods?
As we see industry after industry, sector after sector, transformed by enabling technologies, this story will continue to play out over and over again. Few companies enormously invested in the status quo will manage to cross the chasm. IBM may be the only prominent example, having managed to hang on after its near death experience.
