HITECH Act Subtitle D: Education on health information privacy (13403).
13403(a): HHS Regional Offices to provide education to Covered Entities, Business Associates, and individuals on their rights and responsibilities related to Federal privacy and security requirements for PHI.
13403(b): HHS shall develop and maintain a multi-faceted national education initiative to enhance public transparency regarding the uses of PHI.
Hopefully the HHS regional offices will make good use of existing resources and not spend time developing content for use within their respective geographies. In addition to the HHS regional offices, there will be HITECH regional centers funded starting in first quarter 2010 to help with EHR implementations.
All of these organizatiosn should leverage new media to tools to more effectively get the word out. It will be a good indication of how widespread new media tools have been adopted within Presidents Obama's administration.
